What happens to your QR code when you cancel?
Every dynamic QR provider has an answer to this. Most of them do not put it on the pricing page.
The three things that usually happen
- The code stops working. Scans land on an error page or a 'this code has expired' screen, on material you already printed and distributed.
- The code freezes. It keeps resolving to whatever destination was saved last, forever, with no way to change it. If that page later goes offline, the code dies silently.
- The code gets monetised. Scans are redirected through an interstitial advert, or to the provider's own sign-up page, using your printed material as their advertising space.
What Sure-QR does
When you create a dynamic code we require one extra answer: where should this code go if you ever stop paying? You pick either a neutral Sure-QR page that explains the code is no longer in service, or any web address of your own.
If a payment fails, nothing changes for seven days. Cards get declined for boring reasons and a week is enough to fix one without your signage going odd in the meantime.
After that grace period, scans redirect to the fallback you chose. Not an error, not a frozen page, and never an advert. The redirect keeps running whether or not you are paying us.
You can change the fallback at any time while your subscription is active, so it can follow your business as it changes.
What we cannot promise
We will not pretend a dynamic code is unconditional. A dynamic code resolves through our domain, so it depends on Sure-QR continuing to operate. If the service ceased entirely, the redirects — including the fallback — would stop with it. That clause is written plainly in our terms rather than buried.
Static codes carry no such dependency at all. They are generated in your browser and the destination is encoded into the image, so they are unaffected by anything that happens to us or to your account.
What happens to your data
Cancelling does not delete your codes or your scan history. Your dashboard stays readable, so you can export or re-point later if you come back.
Scan records are already stripped of anything identifying: we resolve a country and city from the request and discard the IP address without ever storing it, in any form. Raw scan events are kept for 24 months and then rolled into anonymous daily totals.
Frequently asked questions
- Will my printed codes stop working if I cancel?
- No. They redirect to the fallback destination you chose when you created them. If you chose your own website, scans go to your website. If you chose the neutral Sure-QR page, scanners see a short explanation rather than an error.
- How long is the grace period after a failed payment?
- Seven days from the first failed payment. During that window everything behaves exactly as normal, including scan tracking and destination editing.
- Can I change the fallback after printing?
- Yes, at any time while your subscription is active. The fallback is a setting on the code, not something baked into the printed image.
- Will you ever put ads on my codes?
- No. A lapsed code goes to the fallback you chose and nowhere else. Your printed material is not advertising space.
- Do static codes break when I cancel?
- No, and they cannot. Static codes never touch our servers, so a lapsed or deleted account has no effect on them whatsoever.
